Cut the Dash – Save some Cash
It maybe spring but fuel prices are increasing faster than lovers heart rates. Tax duty increases by 2p/litre in April, so why not try limiting usage of fuel by driving more efficiently!
The driver is a big factor effecting fuel economy and the level of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions.
Here are a few tips to smarter driving:
Speed
Aerodynamics is effected by speed. A reduction, especially from higher speed, will help save some cash!
Planning
React to traffic and conditions ahead of the game, smoother driving saves fuel and emissions.
Controls
Gently use the brakes and accelerator, use the gears to keep the revs down and for ‘engine braking’.
Weight
Maximise the payload whilst reducing unnecessary articles to a minimum. Weight increase will decrease efficiency by roughly the same amount.
Aerodynamics
Prevent drag from sheeting, open curtains, roof boxes, racks, trailers, etc. As these affect aerodynamics increasing fuel usage.
Maintenance
Ensure vehicles are serviced at correct intervals. Incorrect tyre wear and pressure causes higher friction reducing economy.
Fuel
Be prudent, fill up where fuel is at lowest price and convenient.
Electrics
Use electrical systems wisely, these require power from the alternator increasing fuel consumption. Air-conditioning being the main offender!
Idling
If stopped in traffic for long periods, switch off the engine. Modern engines do not use extra fuel when restarting.
The average car engine burns a litre of fuel per hour when idling.
External Factors
Avoid braking and accelerating through speed bumps, correct speed to flow through obstacles smoothly.
So why not start now and ‘Cut the Dash and Save Some Cash’pocket the difference and benefit
our environment.
